The ancient name of Ladakh was Maryul, it is located between the Karakoram range and the great Himalayan range. The mountains between these ranges are reddish in colour that's how it named as Maryul ( Mar means red, yul means village).
The origine of Ladakhi kingdom is connected with the Tibetan kingdom. The first king who ruled Maryul i,e Ladakh was the Lachen Spal Gigon who was the son of Skid Lde Nema Gon. Thus we can say that Spal Gigon was the founder of Ladakh kingdom.
